Salters AFC - Salters take on Bonnyrigg Rose Juniors!

With many clubs struggling to get game time due to the weather lately, leading Junior team Bonnyrigg Rose asked for a bounce match with Salters on Tuesday 1st January at Poltonhall 3g and we were more than happy to help them out.

The Rose won the East Region Super League in 2009 and have some fantastic players. They currently sit second in the Super League and are through to the latter rounds of the Scottish Junior Cup having beat Pumpherston Juniors 4-0 on Saturday.

The match was played in good spirit and it was immediately obvious just how good Bonnyrigg are. Knocking the ball about at pace with lots of passing and movement it was good lesson to Salters on how to keep the ball and how to defend as a unit. Salters done well to contest the first half and tried to play some football of our own. Bonnyrigg went into half time with a 1-0 lead and Salters were happy with their first half efforts. In the second half Bonnyrigg's fitness, pace and power showed and they were hard to deal with and again the way they passed the ball was brilliant at times. Salters kept fighting away and were very unlucky not to get a goal back after creating one or two decent chances.

In all it was a great exercise. Salters have taken a lot from the game and we need to put it in to practice for the rest of our season. Bonnyrigg were very happy with the run out and having only played one match in more than two months it gave them a chance to get a run out and get plenty touches of the ball. Bonnyrigg Manager Allan Miller suggested it was something both clubs will do again in the future, and Salters would be delighted to help them out whenever we can.

Many thanks to Bonnyrigg for the match and best of luck for the season.
