| Match Report | Salters made a few changes for the tough away trip to Broxburn Redsox on Sunday. The changes worked well and Salters produced their best league display of the season so far. Right from kick off Salters were playing good football. The passing was excellent as we pulled Broxburn all over the pitch. We were first to every ball, tackles were being won and everyone wanted the ball. Chances were coming thick and fast and Paul Nelson on the left wing was causing massive problems for Broxburn, getting to the bye-line and having efforts on goal or crosses that Broxburn were finding it hard to deal with. After a few chances and decent efforts Salters were awarded a penalty after another burst from Paul Nelson down the flank and into the box. The defender was late with the tackle and Salters were awarded the penalty. However Paul Milligan hit the post and the ball rolled out of play. Salters were then awarded a free kick 25 yards outside the box. Kenny Adams stepped up and slotted a curling effort right in to the far top corner. It was an excellent finish from Kenny who was brilliant the whole game in his new holding midfield roll. Salters lead 1-0 at half time. Second half started in the same manner. Salters created a few chances and Paul Milligan was unlucky not to score after having 3 decent half chances saved by the goalkeeper. However as Salters did not get the second Broxburn began to come in to the game. Although Broxburn didn’t have any direct chances on goal they had a lot of the play and were passing the ball well for a 20 minute spell. The Salters back line of Shane Thomson in goals and Mikey Thomson, Neil McDonald, Steven Illingworth and Ryan Newton at the back soaked up the pressure and kept a clean sheet. This was defending of the highest quality, helped out by a hard working midfield. Salters killed off the game on the counter attack. Paul Nelson burst down the left hand side and slid over a pass to Paul Milligan. Paul Milligan was completely alone one on one with the goalkeeper. He took his time and lobbed the goalkeeper to complete a great day’s work for Salters. Salters now have to build on this performance next week at home to Alba.
