Match Report

Salters claimed their second 2-0 victory in a row on Sunday. This time the opposition was Alba.

The first half was a pretty even affair.  Alba played well and Salters didn’t really break them down.  There weren't a lot of clear cut chances although both teams were trying to play football. Salters had a few efforts from just outside the box, as did Alba. The only real effort on goal came from Paul Milligan after the ball was knocked down in the penalty area; however, his effort was blocked on the line.

The second half was much better as Salters dominated play for most of the half. Salters created a lot of chances and played some decent football.  The opening goal came after some good team play. Shane Thomson in goals passed the ball out to Richard Murray, Richard then squared it to David Jamieson who then switched it 30 yards out wide to Darren Smith. Darren took on the full back and swung over a great cross that Paul Milligan headed high in to the far corner from the penalty spot. Great team play and a really good goal.  Salters scored again soon after.  Good work from Richard Murray on the left hand side saw his cross spin up, bounce around 10 yards on the angle, Kenny Adams arrive and hit a first time volley high in to the far corner. Salters were playing some great football and should have scored more: Richard Murray was clean through but shot over; Kenny Adams had a couple of good shots just wide; Paul Nelson fired just past the post; and Paul Milligan had a couple of efforts well saved by the Alba goalkeeper, in particular a great save one on one from 6 yards out. Alba didn’t create much in the second half, although Shane Thomson in the Salters goal was forced to make one good save low down after a header from a corner.

This was an excellent second half performance from Salters and we fully deserved the points.

It was a very fair match with very few fouls from either team. The referee Scott Stewart was one of the best we have had and let play flow for the whole game.

Best of luck to Alba for the rest of the season.
