Match Report

Salters lost for only the second time in the last 15 matches, at home to higher league opposition Pentland Roadhouse in the club's first ever cup game. It was a closely fought match that Pentland deserved to win in the end as they created more chances and limited Salters to only a few real chances.

Pentland went 1-0 up with a fortunate goal. An excellent long range shot beat the goalkeeper and hit the bar; the ball then rebounded off the goalkeeper and rolled into the net. It was an unfortunate goal to lose for Salters who were well in the game at his point.  Pentland made it 2-0 after the striker ran through the offside trap and rounded the goalkeeper. Salters had a couple of decent efforts. Kenny Adams rose unchallenged in the box to head wide from a corner, Richard Murray had a shot brilliantly turned over the bar from the goalkeeper, Paul Milligan had a couple of shots on target and also was denied a stonewall penalty after being taken out in the box. However despite this Pentland were the better team and deserved to be in the lead.

The second half was much closer although there weren't really any clear cut chances and both teams defended really well. Pentland showed experience to ensure they saw the win out. The only real hope Salters had was when a good one-two with Paul Milligan and Richard Murray put Paul through on goal, however an excellent last ditch challenge on the penalty spot saved a certain goal.

Overall Salters battled well and on another day might have got something from this game. It was encouraging that we competed for 90 mins against a higher league team and this should give Salters some confidence for the coming season.

Best of luck to Pentland for the coming season, especially in the cup!
