| Match Report | Salters continued their good form in the Scottish Cup with an excellent home win over Bowery Bar from Ayrshire. Bowery are currently top of their league and unbeaten this season. The first half was very even with both teams trying to play football. There were a lot of really crunching tackles from both teams and a lot time spent complaining to the referee, who wasn’t having his best day. Bowery were the slightly better team, however it was a very tight and the first half ended 0-0. The second half was excellent and must have been really good for the watching fans. Salters took a deserved lead through Paul Milligan. Richard Murray doing well down the right wing and swinging a cross over, Paul Milligan took the ball on the chest and volleyed home. However Bowery hit back from a corner, the forward heading home from close range. Salters scored again after a through ball from Richard Murray put Paul Milligan clean through one on one with the goalkeeper. Paul took one touch and then finished low and hard in to the far corner. Salters were playing well at this point and having some decent possession. The game was wide open as Bowery pushed to get an equaliser and Salters went after a third goal. Richard Murray got the vital third goal after running down the right hand side on his own, cutting inside and slotting the ball under the goalkeeper. Bowery did get a late goal back after Steven Illingworth unavoidably headed into his own net under pressure from the Bowery player. However Salters held out for the win comfortably and could have scored again themselves. There was a lot happening in this game. Bowery missed a penalty, the Bowery goalkeeper got sent off for a shocking lung on Richard Murray late in the game and the Bowery fans invaded the pitch at one point, running into the Salters box after Bowery had scored. At the end though everyone shook hands and headed to the Salters Inn for a pint. This was another excellent performance from Salters in the Scottish Cup. It seems the better the opposition the better Salters play. We have got to perform like this every week from now on, regardless of the opposition. Well done boys, lets hope it’s an away tie in the 4th round so we can make a weekend of it!
