| Match Report | This was a record win for Salters. 7-0 is our best ever score line, and in truth we could have doubled our finally tally. The spirit in the changing room before the game was very high. Salters can now sense we have turned a corner and are starting to really show what we can do. We were up for this game from the start and created change after chance for 90 minutes. The first half started scrappy, however every time Salters got the ball we tried to get it down and play passing football. Alba to there credit were trying to do the same thing but didn’t have the same cutting edge that Salters had. Salters missed two or three half chances early on. We opened the scoring after a corner was whipped in from Paul Nelson and Stephen Crawford rose highest at the back post to head home. Salters quickly scored again, this time Stephen Crawford was the provider floating a delightful cross into the box from a free kick, Paul Milligan dived to head home into the top corner. The third goal before half time came after good work from David Jamieson down the left, his deflected pass fell right to the feet of Richard Murray who calmly slotted home from 10 yards. Half time 3-0 Salters and really only one team in the game. The second half saw Salters take their foot off the gas early doors. We allowed Alba back into the game and Shane Thomson in goals produced a couple of magnificent saves. However Salters saw out this period of pressure and answered back by scoring 5 more goals of our own. Stephen Brown got his first goal of the season after breaking down the right hand side, skinning the defender and scoring with the aid of a deflection. Next David Jamieson headed home after a decent save from the Alba goalkeeper after a shot from Paul Milligan. Then Paul Nelson slid the ball home from 6 yards after Paul Milligan crossed the ball low to the back post. Finally Paul Milligan got his second of the game after a good shot from David Jamieson was spilled by the goalkeeper. It was a really good attacking display from Salters who really looked like scoring every time we got the ball. We passed and moved well, playing from the back through the midfield when needed but also going direct when it was needed. We defended well again and kept a clean sheet for the third time in our last four games which is very pleasing. This was all round a very good day for Salters. Salters are starting to learn from the mistakes we have made in the past and are starting to get a settled match day squad. Newtonheath next week, we will have to keep the performance level up as in the two games we have played against them we have been awful. Well done lads! Team: Shane Thomson, Mikey Thomson, Steven Illingworth, Jon Weir, Kris Murdoch (Darren Smith), Stephen Brown (Ryan Ramsay), Richard Murray (Steven Duncan), Stephen Crawford, David Jamieson, Paul Nelson, Paul Milligan. Subs not used, Paul Kivlin, John Paget. |
