| Match Report | Salters played a charity match against the old “Salters Legends” team which was mixed with some very handy younger players from other teams. Salters were able to use our whole squad including giving Bruce Reilly in goals his first ever taste of the action and bringing in Kevin Wood for his first start. Blair Mathewson also started the game on the right wing and Neil McDonald and Daniel Muir returned to the starting 11. In the second half Niall Malone also made his debut. The standard of play was high and both teams did their best not only to win the game but win it playing football and put on a show for the watching fans. Salters scored through a Paul Milligan header, then Kevin Wood slotted home and finally Paul Milligan scored his second after good pressure and delivery from Blair Mathewson on the right wing. The Legends scored with a low cross to the front post which was tapped home and a long range effort from the impressive centre midfielder. There were plenty other chances but the half ended 3-2 to Salters. Salters made 7 subs at half time as we looked to give everyone a run out. However the Legends got back into the game, the midfielder breaking forward and finishing low and hard. Salters then settled down and went ahead again through a free kick, Shane Thomson placing the ball in the top corner. Stephen Brown then put us further ahead, shooting from 25 yards to beat the GK. Paul Milligan rounded up the scoring with his hatrick after a good through ball from Shane Thomson. A good run out and some cash raised for charity. Thanks to all involved for organising this game. |
