| Match Report | Salters got back to winning ways with a much improved performance against a good Alba side at Dalkeith on Sunday. The first 10 minutes were very even as both teams tried to get a hold of the ball. However Salters always looked likely to create a chance and the opening Salters goal was of very high quality. The returning Dani Muir won the ball back in defence and started an attack that went from one side across the midfield down the other side and eventually Paul Nelson curled in a brilliant cross to the on rushing Richard Murray to volley home at the back post, brilliant goal. Soon after another cross from Paul Nelson was met by Paul Milligan however on the stretch he could only hit the post with his shot. Alba had one decent chance, the winger squaring to the penalty spot however the forward blasted the ball over the bar. Salters had a couple of other chances, most notably Mikey Jones missing a header from 3 yards out. Salters were the better team for a lot of the first half but could only manage to go in 1-0 up at half time. The second half almost entirely belonged to Salters. We started well and went 2-0 up when Paul Nelson swung over a corner that Mikey Jones met full on to power home a header. Paul Milligan was added a third, winning the ball on the half way line and running through the Alba defence before slotting home from 20 yards. At this stage Salters winger Richard Murray was sent off for swearing and Salters went down to 10 men. Despite this we kept going and went further ahead through Paul Nelson after a flick on from Paul Milligan sent him clean through to smash the ball home. Late on Steven Illingworth added a 5th goal, controlling a Shane Thomson shot and firing through the goal keepers legs. Again we had more chances, Paul Milligan firing a shot in that the goal keeper saved well, Paul Nelson going clean through but again the goalkeeper saved and Steven Illingworth firing a 30 yard scorcher that the goal keeper only just tipped over the bar. John Paget in the Salters goal was limited to only 2 or 3 saves, mostly long rangers with the exception of one good effort from the edge of the box that was going in the bottom corner. Full time Salters 5-0 Alba. This was a much better performance from Salters. From the first whistle to the last we played good football and created many chances. The defence was solid, the midfield worked hard back and forward and we made the most of our chances when they came. Alba are a decent team and we should be proud that we won this game comfortably. Best of luck to Alba for the rest of the season. |
