| Match Report | Salters got another three points on the board despite an unconvincing display against a much improved Alba team. Salters first goal was an excellent finish from Paul Milligan who lobbed the goalkeeper on the angle after a great pass from Paul Nelson. Paul Milligan got his second later in the first half, twisting and turning the defence before placing the ball in the corner from 20 yards. Alba had a lot of possession and John Paget in the Salters goal was on top form producing some breathtaking saves. Half time 2-0. Second half and Alba got a goal back and it was very much deserved. Salters looked slack at times and again had John Paget in goals to thank for a couple of good saves. One of them was unbelievable, clawing the ball off the line when it looked like a certain goal. Salters were wasteful up front and chose the wrong option or messed up the passes when we had 3 or 4 attackers going through against 2 defenders. However we did get the vital third goal, Blair Mathewson heading home a rebound after a good save from the keeper. Alba got a very late consolation goal, the midfielder breaking down the left and cutting in, his shot deflected off a Salters player and looped over John Paget and into the net. Final score 3-2. Not a great display from Salters, however we got there in the end. Three points are the main thing in the league and we got them, however we have to improve on this in weeks to come. Team: John Paget, Kevin Cornwall, Steven Illingworth, Ryan Newton, Darren Smith (Niall Malone), David Jamieson (Blair Mathewson), Stephen Brown, Michael Jones, Shane Thomson, Paul Nelson, Paul Milligan. |
