Match Report

Salters lost out to a late goal against Newton Heath; however we no complaints about the final score as we did not play well and Heath deserved the three points.

Salters were forced to make a few changes due to missing players. Players arriving one minute before kick off didn’t help either. We started very poorly and never got back in the game.

Despite being under the cosh for long periods we defended really well and had a couple of chances on the break. We went ahead after a great delivery into the box from Chris Robertson was turned into his own net by the defender who really couldn’t do much about it. Heath got the equaliser just before half time, a floated free kick to the back post was knocked down and the unmarked forward had the easy task of slotting it home. Mostly Newton Heath in possession knocking the ball about well and playing some excellent football whilst Salters stood, watched and admired like we were playing against a team of superstars.

The second half was mostly the same, Newton Heath with decent fluent passing and Salters wandering about hoping something might happen. The Salters back four were keeping us in the game at times and we were lucky not to be behind on several occasions. Newton Heath got the winner late on, a through ball from midfield in behind our full back for the winger who showed more desire and bravery and got to the ball first to roll the ball home. Heath then saw out the game for the three points.

No doubts Heath were the best team were on the day. Salters were awful, hardly passed the ball, never closed Heath down, didn’t keep our shape and had it not been for the back four and two centre half’s MacFarlane and Jones in particular we would have lost by more. Heath will have left wishing they could play against opposition like that every week.

Having had a few missing tonight and even more missing on Sunday including both centre half’s, we will be well up against it when we face Boca. However this is our last midweek game and the following Sunday we should have a much better pool of players to pick from.

Not good enough from all concerned. Loosing is one thing, but to lose without even getting stuck in and fighting as a team is hard to take. Best of luck to Heath for the season ahead, they look like they will have a big say in who wins the title.
